Common Adobe Reader Problems and Solutions

How do I get Adobe Reader?

1. Go here.
2. Uncheck the selections to also install the optional software (e.g. Free McAfee® Security Scan Plus, Google Toolbar, etc.).  
3. Click the button for Download Now. In a few moments, you'll see a window titled File Download. Choose Open or Run.
4. The program will download. It will then be automatically followed by another window letting you know it is processing. Wait for it to finish.
5. In the window titled Acrobat Reader Setup, click Next.
6. Click Next again, and then click Next one more time. Now click Install. When the status bar has reached the end of the install box, click Finish.
7. Restart your computer.
8. Open the Adobe Reader from the icon on the desktop. Click Accept at the license agreement. You're all set!

Why is my browser freezing when I try to open a Kaplan PDF test or explanation?
In some cases, Adobe Reader will not open properly which can cause your browser to freeze.

• Disable the Adobe Reader browser and force the Adobe Reader program to open as a new window.

1. Open the Adobe Reader program, click the Edit menu and then select Preferences.
2. Select the Internet category and uncheck the option Display PDF in browser.
3. You will be prompted to restart your computer. Save your work and close any open applications before doing so.
4. After restarting your computer, try the tests again.

• Open the PDF document within Adobe Reader.

1. For the test or explanations you want to view, right-click on the Adobe Reader icon next to the item.
2. Select Save target as and save the file to your computer.
3. Open Adobe Reader. From the File menu, choose Open.
4. Find the document you want to read, and click Open.

If you are having persistent problems with Adobe Reader, make sure you are using the latest version of Adobe Reader. You can download the latest version here.
   
I'm using a Mac and it's telling me to enter a password to open PDF files. What do I do?
The Mac OS X system allows users to view and print PDF files using Preview. Users running OS X10.3.3 or earlier might get a prompt from Preview asking for a password even if the document is not password-protected.

• Make Adobe Reader the default PDF viewer.

1. Locate the PDF file you want to view.
2. From the File menu, select Get Info.
3. In the Info window, select Open with.
4. Set the pop-up menu to Adobe Reader.
5. Click the Change All button immediately below the pop-up menu.
